The Georgian is IT Again: Santa Monica’s Hippest Hangout
February 7, 2026

This is the sort of thing that probably happens to the Georgian once every 20 years or so—a nice facelift and a house full of hipsters. Built in 1933 or so, the ages come in waves. The sun is back up at the Georgian.
Last time NPS was here, things were at stasis. But not this time! This time there was an art opening attended by so many people that they didn’t fit. And there was a line on Friday night for the new nightclub downstairs. Who knew? And the bar was always hopping.

I was assigned an excellent backwards facing suite on the 4th floor. The parking garage view is not to die for.

There were cookies and a personalized note.

There was an old school bar.

There was a living room.

And the shower? Excellent.

Breakfast at Cora’s (a tradition now) was great.

R2 was great this iteration. A blast to see everyone and drink wine together. This time there was so much extra wine that we left two cases to the wait staff for “the best tip we ever had.”

Later we went to see the sunset in the city.

And we had a secret tiki cocktail at Tail O the Pup’s hidden Lucky Tiki.

Finally Rivers Family dinner at Escuela was great.
An all around excellent visit, five showerheads, some energy, and a big mass of hipsters at the Georgian. We’ll be back.
Plaza La Reina, Los Angeles
October 12, 2019
Plaza La Reina remains an outstanding property. NPS recommended. On our second stay we met one of the owners (Philippe) who of course is friends with a mutual friend. The world is small.

The courtyard (which has net coverage)
Room 202 is a junior suite and is a very nice room. Though its large windows overlook the street, it is quiet.

The site of R2
NPS is in town for R2, about which this posting.
Badmaash serves excellent Indian food in a Bollywood style. Cora’s in Santa Monica is a great place for breakfast.

Greenpoint
The Edison is a very big but very good bar. Pretty empty early on a Friday.

LACMA lamps
A visit to the LACMA is always a good idea.
A rare but consistent five showerheads for Plaza La Reina.
The Georgian Hotel Santa Monica, Time for an Update
February 16, 2019
NPS has been coming to the Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica for many years (starting before there was even an NPS identity). Over the years, many parts of the hotel have undergone updating and renovation, with special attention paid to the common areas. The rooms have all been spruced up as well, but unfortunately the bathrooms were not included in the renovation plan.

Santa Monica is pretty not bad
This trip out allowed for only one night in Santa Monica, so NPS decided to check out a room category one notch down from the ocean view suites. Turns out, it’s a big notch. The king suite room 709 has a spacious design with some very strange quirks. It also has a tiny little bathroom.
Room layout is very similar to the ocean view suites, with a view of the back alley instead on the ocean.

But what in the heck is this here for??

709 forlorn chair
That space where the poor lonely chair sits would be better off as part of an expanded bathroom. Here, you’ll see what we mean.

Tiny little bathroom
Though the stuff in the bathroom is spotless and new, the shower over the tub thing has got to go (not to mention the obesity bar). Zero points for the shower.

Dare you to use whatever liquid is in these containers
During our brief stay in Santa Monica, we had lunch at Lazy Daisy, dinner at Lares, and breakfast at Cora’s. All three places are top notch.

We’re demoting the Georgian to three showerheads. Hopefully they will see to some bathroom redesign to go along with all of the other great stuff that they have done.
