Yes it rained. And then rained. Deluge. Downpour. So we moved the music inside and played all night anyway.

But then we were due in Wisconsin the next morning before noon! That meant leaving the party at 2am for a late night visit to the nearest airport’s suburban hotel chain. Ears ringing from electric music, off we went into the deluge.

Here is the disaster that is Manchester, NH Springhill Suites. Just. Do. Not. Go.

My travel buddy with endless platinum Marriott points procured our reservation and checked us in, so we got to participate in ultra elite status. Like check out this outstanding amenity!

Amenity? Or cheap bag of chips.

And we got the best available room in the place, which was this desert of a design disaster.

Just super generic and gross.

Plastic shower! In a sealed room. Obesity rod.

Yeah. No.

Yeah. No.

So anyway, we were there for less than three hours. The plan is to never have to do that again!

One showerhead for Springhill Suites writ large. No.

According to the BVI people, I have never been here before. But I distinctly remember being here in 2012. Someone needs a computer.

The computer believes you did not exist in previous times.

Room 7 is gussied up in the standard BVI fashion. Heavy on the flower prints. The building is solid and nice. But the decorator needs to be replaced.

The sound track in the morning at the restaurant is Frank Sinatra. Somehow fitting. Oh, and there is a presidential candidate staying here on my floor. Who knows, probably some jackass from Texas.

The sound track the evening before after dinner at the Copper Door (right next door) was some live music on the patio. A spontaneous appearance by Where’s Aubrey. And real Liberals with a new bottle of Amer Picon. The evening was delightful and candlelit.

At least it’s not a massive chain of hamster cages! Three showerheads and some flowery print for the BVI. As far as we can tell, there is nowhere better to stay in Manchester, NH.

Of course the United flight up to Boston was delayed (90 minutes) and of course there was no wifi on the flight. You see, United spent all kinds of money on that stupid DirecTV system as if everyone in the universe does not have their own nexus or ipad. United, you guys are truly behind the technology curve by a decade. Oh, and there was no food on the flight…at all.

So I was hungry when we finally landed 90 minutes late. We hightailed it to the Highball Lounge to visit my friend Shaher Misif. Shaher Misif is a dangerous man.

The Highball Lounge rocks. After an obligatory authentication shot, we had a delightful Barnyard Punch, recently added to the cocktail list and made as follows:
1.5 oz Bourbon
.5 oz Falernum
.5 oz Suze
.5 oz Lemon juice
.5 oz Raw sugar
2-3 dashes celery bitters
shake, strain, serve on rocks. garnish with mint and lemon moon. (I will cut the sugar down myself when I make this one.)

We also had an outstanding bacon cheeseburger and some tater tot nachos. Delicious.

Then we drove to NH with a warm fuzzy feeling.

Bedford Village Inn, NH

October 4, 2012

Quaint little inns are not really my cup of tea or crumpet or whatever it is they are supposed to be. But this is a nice one anyway. Turns out that I have driven right by it countless times on the way between greater metropolitan Dublin, NH and the Manchester airport. A business dinner in Bedford brought me here?! Go figure.

Almost autumn.

The living space is very comfortable, but a little dated. There is wireless (kinda). Don’t look for an outlet near the desk though. I wonder what you’re supposed to use the desk for without power? Anybody know?

The bathroom has an interesting tub/shower combo, which is starting to fall apart.

The marble clad ante room replete with ancient plumbing.

After dinner last night in Bedford, we came back here to visit Corks (above the Tavern at the BVI). The barman Jim was game to try out some mixology with the somewhat limited supply of elixers on hand. We had him make a Nevada and a Corpse Reviver #2. It was good of Jim to put up with our tastes. He was a sport.

Mixology is very slowly creeping into NH. But the only place you can get a Liberal is at Rhine’s.

The BVI is a three shower heads place. Quaint and nice, but not a noplasticshowers kind of location.
